Sárvár

There was a large-scale television advertising campaign in the 1980s, in which pensioners were singing “thank you, Sárvár, thermal crystal of Sárvár!” Thanks to this campaign, the town mentioned in the melody—only 27 kilometers from Bük—has since become one of Hungary’s most visited tourist centers. The two main attractions of the town are the castle built in the 1200s and the Spa and Wellness Center of international standards inaugurated in 2002.
Although the original crystal from the advertisement is no longer available for purchase, Sárvár is still worth a visit. The town is much more today than a spa town worth a few days’ stay, offering a wide range of exciting, eventful and active opportunities.

Sárvár

The centuries-old history of the second largest town of Vas county was determined by the trade route crossing the Rába and also its location on the border, often forcing it to play a defensive role. One of the bastions of defense was the castle in the town center, known primarily for the Nádasdy family, the members of which were among the Hungarian forces in the wars against the Turks. The castle is perhaps one of the most preserved monuments of Hungary, with a variety of exhibitions within its walls for the entertainment of the visitors.

The town’s role in tourism is outstanding on a national level. The Spa and Wellness Center of Sárvár, opened in 2002, is one of Hungary’s most popular tourist paradises, perfectly combining ultimate relaxation, healing and entertainment. The spa complex just outside the town is open all year around. It consists of two main sections, allowing guests arriving for healing and those looking for entertainment to separately enjoy the services they need. For adrenalin-junkie adventurers, there are the extreme diving bay, the wave pool and a whole crazy slide system, while for those looking for drier conditions, the climbing and adventure track at the spa’s perimeter offers great opportunities.

Although we are residents of Bük, we highly recommend this spa, especially for younger people.

The town is considered to be one of Hungary’s TOP 10 destinations, and it is widely known and renowned not only for its touristic and economic success story, but also for its outstanding events attracting many visitors.

In addition to the International Folklore Days and the Nádasdy Historical Festival, the Simon-Judas Day fair is also a popular event that evokes the atmosphere of medieval fairs, while offering a special gastronomy experience for the hungry.
